1968 Hot Wheels collector's cases

Everything you
needed in 1968! The "First 16" redlines (shown here in 16
different colors!),
all 16 collector buttons, and a
12-car Rally Case!
When the first 16 Hot Wheels cars were introduced
in 1968, carrying cases and track sets
soon followed. Two cases were produced during that first year:
the famous 12-car Rally
Case and a 24-car collector's case.
The 12-car Rally Case is well-remembered by baby boomers because of
it's distinct
mag wheel and redline tire design.

The 12-car Rally Case provided slots for 12 car and a center storage
area for collector
buttons. On the inside of the lid, there is a paper circle with
artist's renderings of
12 of the 16 1968 models.

The second collector's case that was manufactured in 1968 was a 24-car
case that featured
a white Camaro and a purple Mustang on the front.

The 24-car case shown in the photos is an early-run
version. It has a white border around the
perimeter of the front and back covers. It also has the snap latch
located right under the blue handle
(the latch is located elsewhere on the later version).

This early case also has dual internal
clear-plastic flaps with "hook & notch" tabs to hold the flaps
closed. These were omitted on the later version.

The inside of
the lid of the 24-car case featured a Collector's Log.
